Trademark monitoring: a weekly watch for names that come too close to yours
Trademark monitoring that runs every week, not only when someone remembers. Each Monday Sai searches new trademark filings and published applications for names that look or sound like yours in your classes, checks marketplaces, app stores and domain lists you name, and logs every possible conflict with a link and a screenshot. You and your attorney decide what matters; Sai never contacts anyone or files anything.
The routine
# Routine: Weekly trademark watch
Schedule: Weekly on Monday at 9:00 AM
Runs on: Scout's computer
Ask me before acting: no
Stop a run after: 1 hour
## Each run
1. Open the Marks sheet (mark, registration or serial number, classes, spelling variants, look-alike and sound-alike terms) and its Sources tab.
2. In the trademark office's search, find applications filed or published in the last 7 days that match each mark or its variants in the listed classes and related classes.
3. For each hit, record the applicant, mark, serial number, classes, goods and services, filing or publication date, status and link.
4. Search each marketplace, app store and domain search in the Sources tab for the mark and its variants. Record new listings, apps or domains with a screenshot.
5. Mark each new hit Close match, Possible or Low, using only the rules in the Marks sheet, and note published marks with their opposition deadline.
6. Skip anything already in the Watch log.
## Rules
- Read only. Never contact applicants or sellers, file anything, or send takedown requests.
- Record what you found; don't decide whether something infringes.
- If a search fails or returns too many results to review, say so instead of guessing.
## Send me
New close matches first, published marks with their deadlines, and a link to the updated Watch log for my attorney. What is trademark monitoring?
Trademark monitoring, also called a trademark watch, is the ongoing search for new filings and uses of names that are similar to a registered or pending mark. Owners watch so they can spot a possible conflict early, often while a new application is still open to opposition, instead of discovering it after the other name is established in the market.
A watch is only useful if it runs on a schedule. Searching once a week is repetitive work, which makes it a good routine.
How this routine watches your trademarks
Every Monday Sai runs the watch for each mark you list:
- Read your marks. Sai opens the Marks sheet with each mark, its classes and the spelling, look-alike and sound-alike variants to search.
- Search new filings. It searches the trademark office for applications filed or published in the last week that match a mark or a variant in your classes.
- Check where names show up. Marketplaces, app stores and domain searches in your Sources tab are checked for new listings using the name.
- Log each hit. Applicant, mark, classes, dates, status, a link and a screenshot go into the Watch log, with published marks and their opposition deadlines marked.
- Hand over for review. You get the close matches first; you and your attorney decide what to do.
What you get every week
The routine collects and organizes; it is not legal advice, and decisions about oppositions or enforcement stay with you and your counsel.
- New filings similar to each of your marks, with links
- Published applications and their opposition deadlines
- New marketplace listings, apps and domains using the name
- A Watch log your attorney can review in one place
Ways to monitor a trademark, compared
Owners usually choose one of these, or combine them.
| Method | Setup | Covers new filings | Covers marketplaces and the web | Ongoing effort |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Searching the trademark office by hand | None | Yes, when someone searches | No | High every week |
| A trademark watch service | Low: order per mark | Yes | Sometimes, as an add-on | Low, with a fee per mark and region |
| Brand protection software | Medium | Some | Yes | Low, with a subscription |
| A Sai routine | Paste the routine, list marks and sources | Yes | Yes, any site you can open in a browser | Low: review the log |
Owners with many marks across many countries usually need a professional watch service and counsel. For a small portfolio, a weekly routine keeps a watch running and gives your attorney an organized log. To watch inventions instead of names, use patent monitoring.
How often should a trademark watch run?
Weekly suits most owners, because new applications are published on a regular schedule and opposition windows are limited. Brands launching in a new market can add a run before each launch. Use Repeat in the demo above to change the schedule.

Why use a computer use agent for trademark monitoring?
Trademark searches, marketplaces, app stores and domain tools each have their own search screen, and few of them offer an integration for a small team. A computer use agent runs each search the way a paralegal does, takes the screenshots and fills the log, so the watch happens every week without a person spending the morning on it.
Sai ranks at the top of OSWorld, the open benchmark for computer use. For a watch, that means the same searches every week and failures reported instead of skipped.
Skills this routine uses
- AI brand visibility tracking: Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini your buyers’ questions every week and log which brands each answer mentions and cites.
- Website data to Excel or Sheets: Pull prices, listings and tables from websites with no export into a clean Google Sheet or Excel file, on a schedule if you want.
- Excel automation: Clean, merge and update workbooks, refresh a model from new numbers, and build the weekly report in the real Excel app.
